Upcoming Events and Activities

I wanted to take a moment and invite you all to our Spring Jazz Concert this Monday (4/28) at Central Baptist Church on Outer Drive here in Sioux City. Both Jazz 1 and 2 will be performing and we will have guest artist Mike Hilson who is the guitar professor from University of South Dakota(We won’t hold that against him). The cost of the event is $5 and includes dessert/drink/JAZZ! The Jazz bands have had a great season with high marks at every festival in the area.

On Thursday (5/1) at 7PM the North Middle School will be holding their Spring concert featuring their 6-7-8th grade bands as well as some of their top ensembles from their solo/ensemble contest earlier this week.

On Friday (5/2) at 7PM the North High School will be holding their Spring concert featuring their Concert Band and Symphonic Winds as well as some of their top solo and ensembles from their solo/ensemble contest earlier this month. The concert will also have their end of the year awards ceremony. This should be a great end to what was such a great year.

Jolly Time popcorn fundraiser – If you are a popcorn lover please see one of the high school band and color guard members about purchasing a case of Jolly Time popcorn from them. Each case contains 24 packages and is selling for $15. This is significantly lower than you can purchase from the store and nearly 50% goes into the North High band account. Every little bit helps! Orders are due May 6th. Delivery will be May 12th.

10:30am – Rhythm sections will meet at NHS to load van and vehicles
11:30am – Jazz personnel meet at side Applebee’s for dinner and hang time
1:00pm – Arrive at Eppley Auditorium and unload.
1:15pm – North 2 warm – up in Room 100
1:45pm – North 2 perform – On Stage
North 1 warm – up in Room 100
3:00pm – North 1 Perform – On Stage
North 2 clinic in room 223
3:30pm – Talk and pack up – watch other bands
6:00pm – Awards
6:20pm – Load Van – Dinner
7:30pm – Evening Concert $5 for students.

12:00pm – Arrive at Mitchell Pizza Ranch – Don’t eat too much
1:00pm – Head to DWU for afternoon sessions
1:30pm – Master classes
3:30pm – set up and slow warm-up on your own.
4:00pm – Warm-up session in chapel
4:30pm – performance and clinic
5:00pm – clinic
5:30pm – Dinner in Mitchell
7:00pm – Performance concert at DWU –
9:00pm – Load and leave
11:30 – arrive at NHS

Additional Information

Students are responsible for getting their own instruments, music, mutes, etc. to Morningside and back to North High School. Do not leave instruments in your car overnight. Most evening events have a charged admission so I recommend having some money for the tickets. I highly encourage you to come and watch the events. These concerts will have some of the best jazz musicians in the upper Midwest performing. Please take full advantage. All friends and family are invited to our performances. Please come and support!

11:15pm – Field Warm-up

12:45pm – Talk/Dress/Load – De-plume at the busses – Keep your shako

1:15pm – Lunch at the dome bring $$

2:30pm – Depart Vermillion, SD and heading to Waukee, IA

6:30pm – Arrive in Waukee, IA High School – dinner on your own bring $$$
do not over eat.

-Please dress in full uniform after dinner.

7:45pm – Head to Warm-up site

8:00pm – Warm-up with pit equipment

9:10pm – Walk to gate

9:25pm – Gate – we go on after Marshalltown

Festival of Bands Information

Saturday will be a long day. Make sure to eat both breakfast and Lunch! Bring a snack and water for the afternoon/early evening. Please refrain from energy drinks and junk food until the performances are done. We will not get a chance to eat dinner until after our FINALS performance. I know! Very inconvenient. BE PREPARED!

 11:15am – School Opens

11:30am – Chaperone meeting

11:45am – Load bus

12:15pm – Depart North High School – Sioux Falls, SD

1:45pm – Arrive at Howard Wood Field – Dress and use bathroom

2:15pm – Warm-up in Parking lot at Canaries Stadium – Full Uniform

3:15pm – Pit pack up

4:00pm – Head to gate

4:15pm – Gate

4:30pm – Perform

4:45pm – Head to busses and put away gear. Chaperones will walk us there and back move quickly.

5:30pm – Awards – DM in uniform

6:00pm – Meet at busses for further instructions

 If we make Finals we will eat at the stadium (bring money$$$). We will then head to the buses and get warmed up for the show. This all depends on when we perform.

 10:00pm – Awards at Howard Wood Field

10:30pm – Load bus and leave for Sioux City North HS

12midnight – 1:00am – Arrive at SCN

 If we do not make finals we will head to the mall for dinner then head home shortly after. We would make it home around 9PM.

WEATHER

The weather will be chilly. Please bring appropriate clothing!

 PIT AND PROP PARENTS

Parents helping with Props and Frontline equipment need to report to the trailer at 3:30pm. The band trailer will be at Howard Wood Field in the North East Lot.

you can help fill one of the positions, or know of someone who would be

1) Camera operator:One (1) or Two (2) Adults preferably all day but can
split into Prelim & Finals

2) Score Board Operator – One (1) or Two (2) Adults, all day or split

3) Records (envelope stuffing) – One (1) or Two (2) Adults, all day or split

CONCESSIONS (UPPER):

1) Two (2) Adults for 1:00-4:00 pm shift

2) Three (3) Adults for 4:00-7:00 pm shift

**Friday, September 20th from 5:30-7:00 the Band will host a Pre-Game Meal.  This is located at the shelter by the east endzone of Olsen Stadium.  We are serving Nachos with the works, dessert and water for $6.00.  Please come out and support the North High Band!

The North Middle School Band will be marching with the High School Band for the  Homecoming game that noght as well.

**Saturday, September 28th is the 16th Annual StarFest Marching Band Competition held at Olsen Stadium. 

**Saturday, October 5th is The Festival of Bands Competition in Sioux Falls.

**Saturday, October 12th is Marching Band Competitions in Sheldon and Orange City.

**Tuesday, October 15th is the Indoor Marching Band Concert at North High.

**Saturday, October 19th is Marching Band Competitions in Vermillion and Waukee.

REMINDER!!! – BAND CAMP POTLUCK

SATURDAY, AUGUST 10th AT 4:30 PM

PARENTS: You need to attend the annual Band Camp Potluck with you band student. It’s a great way for your band student to cap off a long week of Band Camp and for parents to meet, visit, and hear important information for the upcoming year.  It will also be a great time to meet our new band director, Mr. Sursely.

Each family needs to provide their own tableware and drinks.
